Let Me Tell You How KFC Changed My Life

You’re not gonna believe this, but my visit to a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) led to what is now my successful Larry Jacob Internet Marketing business.

So here I am in Phoenix at a KFC having fried chicken. I happen to like fried chicken, but at the same time I’m having dinner by myself at a KFC. It’s only gonna cost me, I don’t know, 4 or 5 dollars and I can afford that.

You see I was in a conference in Phoenix. It was a user group and I had gone there because I saw the potential this tool had for me as a consultant.

I went to this presentation by three guys and it felt like they were talking right to me,, “Can you afford to learn these tools by yourself? Do you have the time worked trial and error style figuring it out as you go when you could instead be tapping on all the knowledge that the three of us have accumulated?”

Happens to be that one of those guys was Michael Mitchell. (I’ll tell you more about him in a moment.)

So I’m sitting there at KFC thinking through the offer to join their mastermind. It was $800 a month. That was a LOT OF MONEY for me.

I was only able to go to the conference because I had a bunch of frequent flyer points. I used a credit card, which was close to maxed out, to pay for the hotel and my rental car. It was a stretch to get there.

I was working a day job as director of IT, meaning a lot of responsibility and mediocre pay. I had my side gig doing online marketing and web design which brought it extra money we badly needed badly.  I had three daughter’s at home each with their own unique learning disability. The private schooling and tutoring to keep them mainstreamed was tapping into our every resource. My wife and I felt like we were always playing catch up.

So this $800 a month mastermind was competing with catching up, paying the bills and keeping our head above water.

I finally got the courage to call my wife and I say, “Honey, this is what’s going on. I really need this for my business. This could make a huge difference taking me from working two jobs, never having enough time, never having enough money to launching my business fulltime and getting us past these hard times. This could fast pass me in a big way.”

My wife knows me really well. She knows my engineering thinking. I’ve very calculated in my spending and not impulsive. She responds, “You know what you’re doing. I trust you. If you think you need this, Go For It!”

And so I finish my chicken, got back to the conference center and I plunked down my credit card. It was a turning point that led to launching my business fulltime.

I mentioned Michael Mitchell earlier. He built the tools for building membership and online courses sites. He would telling me, “Jorge. You’re a web developer. You absolutely MUST specialize in these membership / online course sites. They’re a thing. Their going to be big.”

I was slow a following his advise. I didn’t see it. His persistence with me paid off. He convinced me to specialize in this and today that’s the focus of our business. That hesitant, gut wrenching, “do I have enough money to do this” decision was a critical point in my life. It made massive difference in my business and in my life.
