AI Tools That Business Owners Can Actually Use (and Why They Matter)

Every where you turn, you hear somebody talking about AI. All you platforms, even MS Word and Excel, have a “powered by AI” feature slapped on it. It’s everywhere. You can’t but be thinking to yourself, “Am I I falling behind? Is my business going kaput because I haven’t figured this AI thing out?”

As someone that’s using AI and showing others how, I will tell you a lot of what you’re hearing is hocus-pocus, but there are some very practical ways you can put it to work for your business. And this doesn’t have to be expensive, super complicated and hard to use.

I’ve been working with HighLevel a while now and what I’m finding here is a bit different. It’s a great CRM platform for any small business owner, but it also provides some practical AI tools build into the platform that you can easily configure and have them giving you some productivity quickly. These are features that deliver real value. They can save you time, streamline your marketing, and improve customer experience. These are the features worth knowing.

I’ll be writing more about this in future articles, but let me go over this one AI feature I put to work. It solve a very real problem I had and it took me 30 minutes to get it working.

The Problem

I’ve had a live chat on my website for a very long time. I find that a lot of people prefer using that versus filling out a contact us form or emailing me. It gives them access to me quickly and has led to a few very nice engagements.

Earlier this year, I switched over to HighLevel’s Live Chat. It works really well and is included in the price. I used it to replace the Drift powered one I was using before.

The problem I’ve always faced is that I can’t always respond to a site visitor using the site quickly enough. Someone using the chat on my site will wait around 10, 20, 30 seconds, but after that they will probably figure no one’s home. I’ve closed some nice engagments that first started via live chat, but I have a lost some that tried to contact me and failed. (Really, I failed.)

So I thought to myself, “Maybe I can get an automated assistant to answer the live chat right away, respond to some initial questions and buy me minute or two.”

Well it worked.

I already had the live chat configured on my site. What I needed to do was create an AI agent and connect it with the chat. They call the one I used a Conversation AI Agent. I created it and then clicked on the the BOT Training tab. 

The BOT Training tab wants you to provide the bot with a knowledge base. I’m fortunate that I have been blogging for over 10 years. I have all sorts of articles covering online course, community features. I have coverage on the tools we use like LearnDash, Memberium, BuddyBoss and many, many more. So I gave it the link to my website blog.

The bot used that to learn about my subject and that was about it. I attached the bot to the LiveChat and it started working. The entire exercise to configure it took about 30 minutes. 

It was almost fun working with it and getting it to interact well with site visitors. The way I have been using it is allowing it to begin the conversation and at anytime I can chime in from my laptop and phone taking over the conversation.


The Bottom Line

AI isn’t just a trendy add-on anymore—it’s becoming a practical part of daily operations for business owners who want to grow without burning out. I’ve describe here just one way to put High Level’s AI suite to work with live chat, but there are many other ways to get it working for you.
